Galway IT Meetup (“we”, “us”, “our”) is the data controller responsible for your personal data collected through this mailing list.

2. What Data We Collect

When you subscribe to our mailing list, we collect:

  • Email address (required)

We do not collect any other personal data as part of this subscription.


We use your email address solely to send you updates and information about Galway IT Meetup, including:

  • Event announcements and schedule information
  • Reminders and any material changes to the event
  • Post-event follow-up communications directly related to the event

Legal basis: We process your personal data on the basis of your consent (Article 6(1)(a) of the UK GDPR / EU GDPR as retained and applied under Irish law). You gave this consent when you subscribed to the mailing list.

You may withdraw your consent at any time — see Section 7 below.


4. How We Store and Process Your Data

We use MailerLite (UAB MailerLite, Paupio g. 46, Vilnius 11341, Lithuania) as our email marketing platform and data processor. MailerLite processes your data on our behalf and under our instructions.

MailerLite is established in the European Union and processes data in accordance with the GDPR. A Data Processing Agreement is in place between us and MailerLite as required by Article 28 GDPR.

5. International Transfers

MailerLite is an EU-based company. Your data may be processed on servers within the EU/EEA. In the event any processing occurs outside the EEA, MailerLite ensures appropriate safeguards are in place in accordance with Chapter V of the GDPR.


6. How Long We Keep Your Data

We will retain your personal data on our mailing list until:

  • You unsubscribe or withdraw your consent; or
  • Galway IT Meetup concludes and we close the mailing list or
  • We determine the data is no longer necessary for the purpose for which it was collected.

Upon any of the above, your data will be deleted from our mailing list and from MailerLite within 30 days.


7. Your Rights

Under the GDPR and the Data Protection Acts 1988–2018 (as amended), you have the following rights in relation to your personal data:

  • Right of access — you can request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Right to rectification — you can ask us to correct any inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Right to erasure (“right to be forgotten”) — you can ask us to delete your data.
  • Right to restriction of processing — you can ask us to limit how we use your data.
  • Right to data portability — you can request your data in a portable, machine-readable format.
  • Right to object — you can object to our processing of your data.
  • Right to withdraw consent — you can withdraw your consent at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any email we send you, or by contacting us directly at [email protected]. Withdrawal of consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal.

To exercise any of the above rights (other than unsubscribing), please contact us at [email protected]. We will respond within one calendar month as required by Article 12 GDPR.


8. Right to Lodge a Complaint

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal data, you have the right to lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Commission (DPC), which is the supervisory authority for data protection in Ireland.

9. Automated Decision-Making and Profiling

We do not carry out any automated decision-making or profiling using your personal data.


10. Cookies

This privacy policy applies to the mailing list only. If you visit our event website or ticketing sites, a separate cookie/privacy notice may apply.


11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify subscribers by email. The “last updated” date at the top of this document will always reflect the most recent version.
